US President Donald Trump is “very concerned” about Hawaii’s travel ban and said it will be “absolutely critical” to help Hawaii’s economy recover, according to the state’s governor.
The White House released a statement on Friday saying that it was “disappointed” in the governor’s comments and that “Hawaii will not be affected by this order.”
“President Trump is concerned about Hawaii and is working to assist the Governor in implementing the order,” the statement said.
The governor’s statement comes after the Trump administration announced Friday that Hawaii would be the first state in the nation to receive a waiver from the travel ban.
The president has said that Hawaii will be an exception to the travel restrictions and said he has no plans to change Hawaii’s status.
