India has suspended flights to the US following a new visa restriction on Americans.
The US Department of State said in a statement on Tuesday that it had taken steps to ensure US citizens were not affected.
It said it would issue revised visa requirements for foreign nationals.
The visa restrictions were imposed in June, affecting a total of more than 12,000 Americans.
“The US Government is working closely with our European partners to strengthen our visa system and we are committed to working with all partners to protect our citizens, including Americans, and to prevent the entry of foreign terrorists into the United States,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in the statement.
The State Department said the revised visa regulations were expected to be issued within three weeks.
